Causes of Arthritis

There are many reasons that work in combination to cause arthritis. Genetics may play a role in its cause, however it is not that well understood even today. There is no single gene that causes athritis. There are many genetic variations that play a hand in causing the painful disease. The reason why arthritis affects older people is because as a person grows older, the cartilage between joints becomes weaker and more brittle and is therefore not able to repair itself. As a result it becomes prone to arthritus. Sometimes weight may also be one of the causes of arthritis. In all people, hip and knee joints generally bear our weight. Therefore in heavier people these joints bear excess weight and therefore become brittle and prone to damage. A tibial plateau fracture may also be one of the causes of arthritis. This occurs when a fractured bone enters the cartilage and the protective tissue. Therefore previous injuries also play a part in causing arthritis. Working in heavy construction areas might also cause ar
thritis. Therefore some occupational hazards are also the causes of arthritis. Some high-level sports might also cause joint injury which can subsequently lead to arthritis. Some people who develop septic joint infection or many episodes of gout are very prone to developing arthritus.

Therefore there are several reasons why athritis may occur. Since it is an umbrella for many medical conditions, various causes can lead to arthritis. Scientists and doctors are still doing extensive research to find out the one single cause of arthritus. But lately, it is being proved that arthritis is not necessarily caused by any single factor.
